Alysia Montaño Continues Making Strides On & Off the Track
Last Mother’s Day, Alysia Montaño’s expose article on the systemic issues of professional female athletes started a movement in the sports world. Her story shone a light on her experience as a Track & Field athlete and following her New York Times op-ed, several other highly acclaimed athletes took center stage telling their stories. The movement Alysia started is just the beginning.
Alysia plans to fix this systemic problem. Along with co-founder, Molly Dickens, Alysia recently founded the non-profit organization, &Mother, to make a change. The mission of &Mother is to break down the barriers that limit a woman’s choice to pursue and thrive in both career and motherhood. They aim to enable and support mothers to become the driving force breaking down a system that has historically dismissed, undervalued, and discriminated against them, starting with professional athletics.
“Why has it taken this long to see the value of motherhood? I am more. I am more than I could ever dream to be.”
- Dawn Harper-Nelson, Olympic Gold and Silver medalist and mother to one-year-old, Harper
Alysia's sponsors have expressed interest in supporting her &Mother efforts. We are very thankful for this early support from Cadenshae, AltraRunning, Nuun Hydration, and our friends at Picky Bars.
In Celebration of Mother’s Day and the year anniversary since Alysia first started breaking down barriers, we invite you to join our pursuit to be part of the change. We strongly encourage you to help us make change - even now more than ever.
